CMWU Continues Field Interventions to Address the Impact of the Low-Pressure Weather System Across the Gaza Strip

Published on

CMWU teams, in cooperation with municipalities, continue to carry out field interventions to address the impacts of the low-pressure weather system across the Gaza Strip. The teams are working to address areas affected by rainwater accumulation inside displacement shelters and on roads, using mobile pumps and heavy machinery designated for these interventions. These efforts aim to mitigate the impact of rainfall, ease the suffering of displaced people, and facilitate residents' movement, within the available capacities.

These interventions are part of CMWU's ongoing efforts to respond to emergency reports and urgent needs, making use of heavy machinery rental and labor and technical staff provision projects, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and UNICEF.

CMWU has repeatedly warned, through press statements and urgent appeals, of the risk of further deterioration and a potential disaster during the winter season, amid restrictions on the entry of maintenance supplies, spare parts, and technical materials required to operate and maintain stormwater drainage and wastewater systems. These restrictions limit the teams' ability to carry out maintenance works and emergency interventions with the required speed and efficiency, increasing the risks of rainwater accumulation and worsening the impacts of low-pressure weather systems, particularly in displacement camps and low-lying areas.
