Ahead of the Winter Season, CMWU Continues Implementing Interventions to Reduce Rainwater Accumulation at Several Displacement Camps and Shelters in Gaza City

Published on

CMWU continues to carry out field interventions to reduce the risks of rainwater accumulation inside displacement camps and shelters in Gaza City, as part of its preparations for the rainy season. The works are funded by Oxfam and implemented in cooperation with Gaza Municipality.

The interventions include placing sandbags around shelters to define rainwater flow paths and divert water away from them. They also involve leveling and preparing surrounding areas and streets, as well as creating rainwater collection pits, particularly in locations where stormwater drainage systems have been damaged. These measures help collect and drain rainwater, reduce water accumulation, facilitate residents’ movement, and minimize the risk of flooding.

The works are ongoing at several locations, including Al-Quds Street – Musab bin Umair Camp; Tariq bin Ziyad Street – Al-Israa Camp; Al-Lababidi Street – opposite Al-Buraq School; Al-Naq Street – Al-Waheedi Camp; Tal Al-Hawa – Barcelona and Al-Rayyes Camps; and Tal Al-Hawa, west of the Council of Ministers – Mashael Al-Amal Camp.

These interventions are part of CMWU’s ongoing efforts, in cooperation with its partners, to strengthen preparedness for the rainy season and reduce the risks associated with rainwater accumulation, particularly in displacement camps and shelters, thereby helping improve living conditions for residents and displaced people.
